Who We are

Welcome to Sheravi Kala Creations

Avni and Sheila have been the creative directors of annual cultural events for their community organization for over 10 years. For these annual events, Avni and Sheila collaborated to organize the event program and orchestrate dance and music performances with over 70 participants. These events sold between 150 and 200 tickets each year. Additionally, at Avni’s annual dance shows, where Avni has organized 15 dance performances with her large team of students, Sheila has been the host and announcer of the event. They have collaborated to develop the presenting script and ensure the production of well-organized events with high quality performances.

Sheravi is a local, grassroots initiative formed with the goal of empowering women. We are organizing a show that will be a compilation of performances that explore a woman's inner strength. We envision some performances to express and highlight the expectations of a woman's place in the world and how we overcome them. We also want to celebrate women and their achievements by bringing together artists from our community and collaborate towards the goal of empowering young women to reach their potential. Through this show, we are also aiming to uplift the voices of female artists in the community.

We recognize that feminism is an intersectional issue, and that women from varying backgrounds have different experiences with society. At our show we want to create space for female artists from various backgrounds of society to share their stories through dance and music performances. We are anticipating the participation of 100 female artists from the South Asian, Indigenous, and Black communities of the Greater Toronto Area.

This will be a charity event and all proceeds will go towards the benefit of women in need; we as the organizers will not be making any profit from this event. We will be donating all proceeds to a women’s shelter in the Greater Toronto Area.

Sheravi will be held on September 17th, 2023. We are expecting more than 450 audience members and are reaching out to your esteemed organization to invite you to participate in this initiative. We would love to meet with you to provide more details about Sheravi.

Sheila Adhvaryu

Sheila Thaker-Adhvaryu’s love for dance began at an early age watching Hindi films at a time when the Indian Gujarati community was very small in Alberta. Throughout her junior and high school years, she performed in garba and Raas for various Diwali and multicultural programs representing the Gujarati Mandal of Calgary. Gaining experience in folk dancing and dance dramas, her passion grew more to include freestyle Bollywood dancing. Having gained experience and being part of a growing Indian community, she embraced opportunities to choreograph dance items for various festivals, Raas Garba competitions and wedding parties. She has served as a member of the Alberta Gujarati Association for many years holding various positions organizing and coordinating annual events and youth activities.
She holds a Bachelor of Science and Chemical Technology Diploma and started her career as a chemistry instructor for the Northern Alberta Institute for Technology. After getting married and moving to Ontario, her presenting skills and experience suited her more for her current role with Thermo Fisher Scientific as a laboratory products consultant for the life science and clinical space. At work, she is a member of the Women’s Employee Resource Group and actively participates in events that support Diversity and Inclusion. Through her initiatives, she hopes to contribute to the larger community and provide the next generation an opportunity to gain confidence and showcase their talents.
